In fact, save for a group of scuba divers nearby, the Houston family pretty much had the river to themselves during their float. Still, Memorial Day weekend generally marks the unofficial start of the tubing season on the Comal, San Marcos and Guadalupe rivers. Texas Tubes will be operating until the weather turns cold in the fall, Reno said. Ford and family came well-prepared for their adventure, wearing beach hats and water shoes while bringing reusable sport bottles filled with Gatorade or margaritas and a raft to transport a bulky speaker so they could have some tunes to listen to on their float. The family of 11 pretty much managed to get in their tubes without incident, except for Carmen Ford, 17, who tried jumping in her tube only to do a backflip into the river. Her flip-flops floated down the river without her before they were snagged by family members. As the family floated toward the tube chute at Prince Solms Park, some chose to climb out of their tubes and walk around. Negest Tsegaye, 18, though, headed down the chute that carried her into the roiling water below by the Float In bar and grill. He previously has worked in the park as a life guard.

We are from Florida and will be visiting for the last week in march for spring break. How cold will the rivers be for tubing? We typically require somewhat warmer water to swim. What do you think? For a lot of folks it will be too cold, particularly for a long tubing trip.
